Douglas E. Bachman

April 15, 1950 — September 19, 2021

Douglas Evan Bachman, age 71, died September 19, 2021 due to complications of multiple myeloma. As a graduate of The Ohio State University, he received his Bachelors Degree in Product Design and his Masters Degree in Design Theory. He was a well-respected professional in the field of retail design, which was pioneered in the 1980s in Columbus, Ohio. Doug’s creative work as a consultant earned him multiple design awards and national recognition. He implemented new concepts in retail design for international companies throughout the United States, and in Australia, Canada and Great Britain. As a previous-owner of Trailer Haven, (Wilton Manors, FL) and Jones Pond Campground and RV Park, (Angelica, NY), Doug used his design sense and attention to detail, to enhance environments for the enjoyment of others. Along with his life-partner, Steve Allen, he loved to take road trips in vintage trailers and RVs. He was an avid member of Tin Can Tourists and Sunshine Statesmen GMC clubs. Doug was a fun-loving individual with a playful sense of humor who enjoyed teaching line dancing to hundreds of dancers, restoring vintage trailers or hosting social events for his friends and family. He will be greatly missed by family members and all who knew him. Born April 15, 1950 in Dayton, OH to Robert and Gladys (Gilbert) Bachman, he is survived by husband, Steven Allen; daughter, Rachael (Eric) Richards of Greenville, SC and son, J. Matthew (Sabrina) Bachman of Sacramento, CA. Doug will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Mary Richards, Sarah Richards, Margaret Richards and Kelsey Fletterick. Doug is beloved by his siblings Tim (Kathy) Bachman, Karl Bachman and Laura (Chris) Milarch as well as his nephews, Ben Milarch and Nathan Bachman, and his niece, Bronwyn Bachman. Due to the COVID pandemic, a memorial service celebrating his life will be held at a later date.
