David W. Phelps

David W. Phelps was born to Sam and Mildred Phelps on April 25, 1960 in Richmond, IN. He was the fourth of Sam and Mildred’s five children and was the only son. The family moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL in 1962. David is predeceased by his beloved father, Sam Phelps and is survived by his mother, Mildred Phelps, siblings Chris Jenner (Marty), Pam Hardie (Joe), Carol (Mike) Hawkins and Barbara (Ed) Danson; children Brooke Buchanan (Brandon) and Sam (Kristyn), Granddaughter: Gillian and many nieces and nephews. David went to St. Clement Catholic School and graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School in 1979. During his high school career, he played football, basketball and baseball and remained a proud alumnus. David was known for his devotion to his Catholic faith. He attended mass at St. Clement Catholic Church. He always displayed his faith by wearing his father’s chain with a crucifix. David married after high school and had a daughter and son. He was very involved with their various sports activities through their high school careers. His children also graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School. David worked as an electrical apprentice until he began his career as a corrections officer for Broward County Sheriff’s Office. He retired after 30 years in 2017. David also had a love of fishing, be it on the ocean, in a river or lake. He shared his love of fishing with his children and was always ready to head out in his boat. David had a deep love for his family. He survived growing up with 4 sisters and was devoted to his 2 children. He had a huge heart was always willing to pitch in and help out any of his family members. David had a great sense of humor, an infectious laugh and an amazing smile. He particularly liked to tease to get a laugh from the reactions. A viewing will take place on Wednesday April 28th from 5pm-8pm at First Christian Church of Wilton Manors, 2725 NE 14 Ave. A funeral service to follow on Thursday April 29th at 10am at St. Clement Catholic Church, 2975 N.
