Guy Gallo 66 of Coral Springs passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, November 7, 2015. He had bravely and gracefully battled pancreatic cancer since November 2013. Guy retired From Ft. Lauderdale Fire Department, Guy was born in Wheeling, WV, but his family moved to South Florida when he was 3 years old. He originally lived in the Ft. Lauderdale area, but has been a resident of Coral Springs, FL since 1984. He is survived by his loving wife: Jeannie, two daughters: Lisa Knight of Lexington, SC and Christina Gallo of Coral Springs, son: Danny Gallo of Coral Springs, and mother and step-father: Yvonne and Greg Kolocas of Lauderdale by the Sea. Always possessing a strong work ethic, Guy started his first job at the age of 16 years when he worked a part-time summer position for the Water Department of the City of Fort Lauderdale with his pre-deceased father, Tony Gallo. After graduation from high school, he went on to attain his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1972. A few years later, realizing that a desk job was not his calling, he completed the Fire Academy and worked as a firefighter and paramedic for Ft. Lauderdale Fire Department from 1975 until his retirement in 2003 at the age of 54 years, reaching the rank of Battalion Chief of the Operations Division in 1999. During his years at the Fire Department, he worked a variety of other jobs in his off-duty hours, including freight delivery with Roadway Express as well as building his own business, West Sunrise Tire Company, from the ground-up, with the help of his father in 1978. Following his retirement, Guy found pleasure in a variety of different activities, and as he would have said, he was “living the good life”. He bought his first Harley Davidson motorcycle in 2002 and spent hours riding that bike (as well as two other Harleys purchased after the first) with his wife and friends all over the southeastern U.S. He was also a Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Florida for twenty-five years. Guy was a beloved husband, cherished father, and a much-loved friend and colleague. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. If Harleys are allowed in heaven, it is a certainty that he rode his straight through the pearly gates, waving at St. Peter as he passed. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at the Plantation Campus of Calvary Chapel at 11801 West Broward Blvd in Plantation, FL at 2:00pm. A get-together for family and friends to celebrate Guy’s life will take place immediately following the memorial service at the Ft. Lauderdale Benevolent Fire Hall at 309 S.W. 26th Street in Ft. Lauderdale.
