Kevin K. Johns, 48, of Jupiter passed way unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Kevin was a humble and generous man, always doing for others. He lived life passionately and when not helping others could often be found fishing and boating or cheering on his son’s baseball teams. Special moments were savored playing with his granddaughter. Kevin also enjoyed concerts, festivals and a good party. Kevin and his wife, Brenda, opened a pre-school, Clubhouse University, in 2002. The center serves the community by caring for many children and families of Jupiter. The children loved giving “Mr. Kevin” a high-five, watching him work around the center or simply telling him about their day. Kevin was a 28 year veteran of the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department. He joined the fire department at the age of 19 and discovered his passion for the job and brotherhood. Lieutenant Johns of Engine 13 was a ‘fireman’s fireman’ serving as a role-model to the newest firefighters and a cherished leader to all. His career was filled with many commendations, including the Silver Medal of Valor, awarded for saving the lives of 9 fellow firefighters in 2004. Kevin will be fondly remembered by all as a loving, selfless man with a big heart and even bigger hands. Kevin is survived by Brenda, his beloved wife of 30 years, his children, Amanda (Daniel) Bussek of Palm Beach Gardens, Kevin Jr., and Zachary, and granddaughter Kylie. He is also survived by his father, Vernon Sr. of The Villages, his brothers, Vernon Jr. (Patricia) of Sumterville and Erik (Michelle) of Coconut Creek. There will be a visitation on Monday from 5-8 pm. at Sanctuary Church, 1400 North Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 10 am. also at Sanctuary Church. In lieu of flowers, the Kevin Johns Memorial Fund has been established at PNC bank. Contributions can be made at any PNC branch nationwide.
